This campaign for G-Star allowed us to bring the iconic street visuals of New York City to life. From gigantic murals to to scrappy, drippy stencils- we explored the strokes, drips, oversprays and imperfections that make NYC’s visuals authentic and believable. From pre-vis to shoot supervision we went heavy on R&D making sure to shoot in a way that would allow us to capture that authenticity of the Empire City.
Off the bat we knew there would be no existing filters or process to do this the way we envisioned. So we developed a frame-by-frame technique to turn pixels into brushstrokes and overspray. We also developed an AI tool to help us with a few tricky shots by breaking down our digitally painted footage into many tiny pieces, which were assembled in the remaining video frames.
